It’s not that dress codes are unheard of at all-inclusive resorts… it’s just that the dress code at Finest was more strict than most.
The main difference is that male guests at Finest are required to wear long pants to dinner at most of the onsite restaurants. This is extremely important to know before you go, because if you’re unaware you might pack dress shorts for most nights and one or two pairs of slacks. Considering this dress code, you’ll want several pairs of dress pants, depending of course on your length of stay.
We had a great time at the resort. Our party of four (Dad, Mom, and two girls, age 7 and 4) traveled with another family (Dad, Mom, and one girl age 2). The resort was excellent for the whole family, including the kids.
At first I was somewhat worried that it would be too hot for slacks since we were there in August, but I was pleasantly surprised that the temperature in Cancun was much more enjoyable than home (Northwest Florida) during that time of the year. The days were sunny and breezy, not too sticky. The evenings were actually extremely pleasant.
During our stay at Finest Playa Mujeres, there were three basic “levels” of dress code that we encountered at the bars, lounges, or restaurants:
- Casual Elegance (dressiest/most “strict”)
Note: Some bars or restaurants may have different dress codes in effect based on daytime or evening/night hours.
A detailed breakdown of the Finest Playa Mujeres dress code:
Casual Elegance Attire
Casual Elegance dress is somewhere between casual and formal. This dress code means that gentlemen should wear long dress pants, dress shirt or polo shirt, and ladies should wear long pants, Capri pants, skirts, and blouses. Casual shoes or elegant sandals must be worn at all times.
This dress code applies to all restaurants for dinner (6PM and later) as well as the following bars/lounges:
- Golden Bar after 6PM
- Piano Bar
- Cigar Lounge
- El Teatro Spirits & More
- Sky Bar
T-shirts, tank tops, shorts, and flip-flops are not permitted.
Casual dress is more relaxed, but still not beachwear. In restaurants where casual dress is requested, the following clothing is permitted: informal shorts, Bermudas, cover ups and t-shirts. Footwear of some kind should be worn at all times.
The casual dress code applies to all restaurants for lunch and breakfast as well as Golden Bar prior to 6PM and The Sweet Corner.
Men’s sleeveless t-shirts, any tank tops, swimwear and wet clothes are not permitted.
This applies to pool bars, swim-up bars, and tiki lounges. In these instances, you can walk or swim up in your swimsuit, which can be wet. You can also wear flip-flops or no shoes – pure vacation!
Overall, I’d go back to Finest every year if I could and would recommend it to anyone, whether adults only or families with kids of any age.
Just remember to pack accordingly for the Finest Playa Mujeres dress code – happy travels!
